Afternoon lads/ladettes,

Got a 22kw compressor to wire in but the bugger has no where for me to gland off my SWA? Just a flexi grommet to poke it through....but this is no bueno senor.

Dont want to wire it in singles (this way i will be able to just pull an earth along with the rest of the cores, bypass all need for glanding) because the run is about 10 meters....and im lazy, because 6mm singles are a ball ache - but i will if i have to.

Anyone had this sort of issue before? Would it be acceptable i wonder to just cut a 25mm hole out of the panel work and just gland off as normal? It's my compressor after all, but i am not familiar with any regs that may be surrounding air compressor units. It's only the motor housing after all....not like im drilling holes in the receiver....that may cause further complications :cool3:

The existing hole is already a good 40mm - But i have just decided im going to weld a plate over it, and re-drill so i can gland my cable off. Only trouble is - the entry for the cable where this grommet is, is almost entirely inaccessible as it comes in just behind the control panel and i just cant get my hands/arms/head in to see what im doing, so getting my flying earth off me banjo is going to be a right bastoood. So, as i type this i keep changing my mind - im thinking poke my cable through the existing hole, bring it to the front where i can see what the bugger im doing and weld a plate on at the front just large enough to make off my cable. Seems fair

make a gland plate up. gland your SWA and fit fly lead. then attach the plate to the machine after. you could use self-drill screws.

If you do not need to use SWA why not just run it in (rubber) flex, then you will not need to gland off and earth the armour.
I Like Tony's suggestion.
If you are doing the welding in post 3 then you could make the plate with another hole through it for the flying lead and fit the banjo on the outside where you can reach it, or as Tel says.

Yea that's what i'm doing lads. It's all gooooood. To be totally honest I just really enjoy welding, any chance i get ill weld something together. Made an awesome pen holder last week....

got no idea what you are on about without pics, why not just bolt an adaptable box over existing hole and gland into that?

Why must you go and be so logical.....its way more fun bodging...i mean errr, engineering things together
