I have been looking at going into doing PAT testing again after a while away from doing it(being asked about it quite a lot) I have looked around at what other people are doing and a lot of them are registering with NIC EIC for PAT testing, and some are even saying don't trust a PAT tester who is not an NIC pat tester.....
I got in touch with them and they sent me the info, it is an 8-10 week duration after booking that an assessor visits and takes a look at your testing and recording standards, then you get a registration certificate and a van sticker, the fee is ÂŁ444.00 including VAT and is payable every 12 months....

Do you think that this will help with business (with the way that customers are with these sort of schemes nowadays) or do you think I should wait a while.....:rolleyes:

440 to be pat tetsing registered!!! jog on!! never heard so much crap in my life!!

City and Guilds + Insurance is all you need!!! (obviously a calibrated pat machine!)

another scam from the world of NICEIC!!!

you don't have to be niceic for pat testing. the actual cours/ exam for the qualification if you need it is 1 day. looks like another money spinner for the nice suits.

Hi All Can i chuck my tup -pence in the ring
My thinking on the niceic scheme which i believe is the only one which just does 'pat testing' is that for people in my position it might not be a bad thing .If you as approved spark seen me joe bloggs who he hasnt come across before with a pat tester and a cg2377 ticket would you trust him to do a good job over a fellow approved spark BUT if you seen Joe blogs with cg2377 and an Inspection by NICEIC surely you would have more faith in a proper jib getting done than a label getting slapped on..

cheers 72-van

ÂŁ444 is a bit steep for someone to give you a sticker to make you more legit for testing. Its like any other business, you cant become established overnight. Keep chipping away at customers, build a good rep and word of mouth will take you further than a sticker on your van. Spend the ÂŁ444 on a good signmaker......

I have seen a lot of people registering up with them then putting it on their websites and adverts, people are going to start to expect it pretty soon ....I did the 2377-11 and 2377-12 but apparently that is no longer good enough, also been told that the 2377 PAT and the 2391 PIR tickets are getting changed in early 2012 and will apparently have to be redone, although only a 1 day changeover as far as I know....why do they change the tickets once every 4 years or so?......

Thats quite a few 80p tests just to cover the fees before you add in the expense of course fees and test equipment costs

Only the NIC's business if people are daft enough to pay up, you would be better off inventing a scheme yourself to help your business

Was you told that verbally or did you read this as that is very interesting.

There are discussions in the new amendments for changing the PIR to an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) which if is approved will be a far more comprehensive report than the current PIR, though I think it is still at this time under discussion within the IET.

I'm sure if it is approved and brought in then yes there will be an "update" course on this from the centres, wether it will be C&G driven I doubt it, so it will be just an attend and diploma type thing, similar to the Part P courses run now, and so not compulsory.

Which ever way you look at it it will be making money for someone.
