Got to extend some tails due to meter move, and where they are to come down the wall (internally) to the outside meter box I was just wondering how you chaps would do this?

  • Have put them down the cavity before, but dont like idea of this and not sure if your really suppose to do it? Also it's a new build so full up with cellotex board so no chance this time.

  • Going to try and get Western Power (service provider) to install the switched fuse, apparently they do this for ÂŁ15 ? So didn't want to go down route of installing RCD at incomer as there will be very limited space.

  • So what I'm thinking of doing is chasing out the wall behind meter box and putting a length of 2" x 2" metal trunking in there vertically and using this as my mechanically protection to get up into the first floor joists. And obviously bonding the trunking...

  • SWA isnt an option as have not got the room.
Any Thoughts please...?

Thanks,

Sy

I personally dont see much problem with tails in the cavity,if the insulation is an issue, then enclose them in 25mm flexible conduit,it will at least give protection from the ravages of the insulation

The percieved problem with bridging the cavity can be mitigated a little, by having the tails entering through the bottom of the box forming a drip loop
The air flow through the conduit will also help with thermal effects

It is a more sensible solution to me than all this farting about, with the concerns over Rcd ing buried tails then the discrimination problems or mechanically protecting or trying to wangle swa into the install

Also it's a new build so full up with cellotex board so no chance this time.
Nop cant get f-all up cavity rammed full. Would have been ideal to have got this job before the builder had insulated it all....

Oh well sure there is another way? Or will just have to stick to my plan of trunking

Thanks again,

Sy

Why not use something like MT4, will look better than galv in my opinion. At least the tails will remain accessible and no heat dispersion problems. To be fair your choices are limited the builder should have spoken to you before this stage of the game if they wanted better concealment.;)

Was going to sink galv trunking into wall so wont be seen as this will be in their new lounge..! And also decent protection...

Oh well looks like galv trunking it is then.

Yeah would have been nice to have got in there before builder had finished.

Thanks anyway,

Sy

Sorry mate didn't realise it was in the lounge, what a pain in the proverbial. I would go along with your galv if sinking into wall for sure, as said your options are limited. Very best to you anyway.:);)
