Hello.

I'm total newbie with dmx thing..

I have led color bar, rgb, and 6-channel dmx controller.
I'm trying to use the dmx controller faders to control the Red, Green, blue colors, simply that pushing fader up would bring color up, and fade down shuts down the light.

I'm unable to get any light out when dmx control is switched on, but standalone work well.

Can you help me, please ?
Thanks

Hi Jessy, I'm sure I can help with this.

My guess is that you may have an addressing problem. DMX works on the principle of having 512 channels all squirted digitally down one line, with each channel having a value of between 0 - 256 (where 256 is 'full').

So, each fixture (light) has a number of parameters to control - if it was a normal lightbulb it just dims from off to on, so that would need 1 x range of 0-256, so would be one channel. The next lightbulb along would be the same. BUT, the two lightbulbs need to know which one is which, so we dictate that one of them is on channel 1, the other on ch 2, and so on until we get to 512 lightbulbs.

With your LED fixure it will have probably 4 channels (maybe more - read the manual!) and they'll be channels 1 - n. But because it doesn't know where it sits in relation to other lights on the same bit of DMX cable, we need to tell it when to listen. So, we use an ADDRESS for it. It has to START from a number you designate. Likewise, the controller may have 6 faders on it, but they can be 'patched' to be any number on the dmx line.

So..... check that your start address on the led fixture is 1 and also the controller. One other thing which might be causing the problem is if the fixture has an extra 'master' channel that has to be set to a certain value in order to get light out of any of the R,G or B.

Hi Rock,
Thank you very much for your kind suggestion, i will look it carefully later when i am have time. Thank you again!

You're welcome, let us know how you get on!

Give me makes and model numbes and I'll look up the manuals when I get back, should be able to spot the likely problem.
