Whatever kind of house has this kind of configuration in? Is it a large mansion?

There's 72 breakers if you include the 3 phase ones as 3 MCB's ........................

Its not huge ......... 6 or 7 bedrooms, indoor pool, stables, kennels (the latter both run off SP distribution circuits from here)

Talk about splitting the house into many circuits, which is rather pointless with a single up front RCD ......................

I'm interested to know what purpose it all serves and what each bit is for, my curiosity has been piqued!

Indeed, quite a bit packed in there.
I'd be guessing several sets of outside lights on 24h timers or PE cells.
Contactor/TOL sets on the RHS I'd say for irrigation, pool system, bore pump maybe.
Various sets of heating for floors or different areas.
Personally I'd have put all the extra bits in a proper control board in a services room, but you work with what you have.
