i want something like a switched fused spur, but with an adjustable timer built in. so i could adjust the time and turn it on, it would then stay on for lets say 2 hours and then turn off.

i want this for an electric towel rail in the bathroom, so i could finish my shower, put the towel on, know the electric heater rail on and leave it safe in the knowledge that when I next see the towel it will be dry.

You can get a thermal controller which is used with towel rails which has a timed 2 hour switch. i.e., you press the button and the towel rail will heat up and automatically switch off after two hours. Fits into a standard 1 gang backbox and can control loads up to 800W. In fact I bought one today. Was about ÂŁ45 or so.

The item I got was code 64054 from screwfix but read the reviews. I'm actually looking for a Tesla TCP100 which looks nicer - not sure if it's any better to wire up. The Kudox one looks a bit rubbish to be honest - tiny little terminals and not really clear which is which.

But I think the one sintra suggested is better - about a third the price, and you may find it takes more than 2 hours to dry your towels. They say it can take 1-2 hours just to completely heat up the rail. Only thing may be to check if it's correctly IP rated for it's location in the bathroom.

I've used the Timeguard controllers before. Usually this one SupplyMaster 7 Day Fused Spur Timeswitch | Timeguard 2010 Customers seem to like to be able to control the length the heaters are on for.

The securing screws in the back of Timeguard units aren't the best (in my opinion).
