Discuss Anyone used these for garden lighting? in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi, got a similar system myself. 4 way remote on garden plant lights, small water feature pump and patio lights 4th way will be some pole lamps eventually . Works well.

Cheers,
Lofty.

Thanks chaps.

Sold!

Now, the next thing is,

They have a PIR flood up near the eaves on the house that is wired to a FCU in the loft.

What they would like to do is operate this as normal, but also on an over ride when required.

Is there a similar system available that will give them a wireless switch, as they dont want any conduit or making good anywhere (understandable).

If you use (or already have) a PIR flood light with a manual over ride function, it would still work with whichever remote system you use. Just tell the customer to switch on, off and back on again within 5 seconds (i think) and the light will stay on.

All you have to do is install a single socket after the fcu in the loft to plug in the remote controlled socket unit. Simple and cheap solution.

Thanks Paul,

No, they dont have any switching at all for it, just the FCU in the loft.

They want it to continue working as a PIR, but have the added ability of overriding with a switch, hopefully wirelessly.

Im not entirely sure its possible, although they have had one sparky to quote and he said it was.

How he was going to achieve that we are not sure, as all he did was give them a price to do all the work, but no actual breakdown.

Ok Jason, to achieve the desired affect that your customer wants without running new cables etc try this.

From the FCU (in the loft) install and feed a single socket. Put a plug on the pir flood light and plug it into the above mentioned remote controlled plug outlet. This way the customer can have the flood light switched on consistently via switching on the R/C skt (pir doing its job activating the bulb when set off by movement) and can switch off as and when needed without going into the loft.

If the flood light has an over ride function, by switching off, on, off and on within a certain time the light will remain on. All controlled remotely without going into the loft :) happy days.

3 x remote sockets ÂŁ20. (from my link above)
1 x single skt + b/box (back of van)
1 x plug (bottom of tool box)

All equals a cheap and none intrusive solution with the customer happy.

As littlespark says there's no ways you're going to find spike lights that can accomodate SWA cables directly into them.
