hey-can someone tell me what's the usual method of lighting control in the common areas of apartment blocks

is it time delay switches-and is there any manual over-ride needed?

timers are prone to vandaslism. i would preferably fit PIR sensors, out of reach

trying to get my head around the design -from mcb to light

Some form of isolation would be required for maintenance, this could be by use of the MCB switch, key switches or Greg connectors.

What's a Greg connector?

I googled it and got answers regarding Greg Norman and greg NOS connectors.
However, I doubt it's got anything to do with Golf or Pimping peoples' rides!

Same here. i use those 360 degree ceiling mounted jobs, if you site them properly on the landings it can give the impression of 2 way lighting.

you have to be over 45 to know what gregs are. basically ceiling roses that will fit on a standard conduit box with a plug in connector for the fitting. modern ones are made by klik.

i figured either pir or timer-i've fitted the 360 ceiling mount before


does mcb-pir-light comply with regulations or is it good practise to add key-switches?

When I have done this I run a 3-core and earth past all the fittings and the PIR locations, then you can pick everything up and also add extra fittings / PIR's as well

they have cfl wall lights and a switch on each floor

dunno how compatible pir is with cfl


the short on-time reduces life down to about 10% of quoted afaik

led is good with pir - if there was anything suitable

why not use lights with built in PIR's
