Hi everyone I've started my apprenticeship 2 weeks ago with a local company under a subcontracting contract , I really want to get a better understanding of things and know things without being told and I was told to put myself in that position I would have to read the onsite guide/regs but what I'm finding is I don't know what parts to read or when reading I have no clue what I'm reading... Can anybody give me any advice on what I can do to know the onsite guide to the point where I wouldn't have to check it all the time or reading things and actually understanding it... Thank you

it's too early on your learning curve to expect to understand all the technical stuff in the osg.there are some awesome youtube videos by john ward and chris kitcher you could watch to get the basics.

Agree with Telectrix

You are however making the first step into becoming a professional electrican by seeking knowledge and putting yourself out to learn. Many don't, good luck...

Hi thank you for your prompt response I have indeed since taken your advice and have watched a few of Chris kitchen videos but will need to go over them a few times for it to really stick ...

what's your take on going through the on site guide chapter by chapter writing down notes and going over them and once I feel comfortable with that chapter e.g rcds or testing move onto the next chapter but only once I understand and could explain it to someone else

As has been mentioned before it's still a bit to early to be trying to read and fully understand the Regs and the OSG. You could read through, It certainly wouldn't hurt, But just don't be put off or afraid to ask if theres loads in there you don't understand.
I found that the regs and OSG are easier to understand if you can put them into a practical application, This way you can physically see an example of what is written.
There is a trainee section on here which you may find helpful.

As Bart said if you are currently on an Electrical course you can apply for access to our Trainee section which is full of people the same as you and it's full of great help, also a lot of our trusted members are also Mentors in there and will be willing to help you as you progress throughyour course work.
