Hi im 23 I have level 3 2330, 2392, 17th edition and pv certificate.

After struggling to find work due to a lack of experience I have found work with a guy. He is willing to take me on as an apprentice, rather than me just working with him, to help subsidise his costs of having me around. I know this perhaps isnt the ideal approach but anyway question is:

1. He is self employed 3 years with nappit and has had no previous apprentice - is he eligable for this scheme?

2. As I have 2330 level 3 already am i eligable to be an apprentice (I havent got my nvq yet)

3. If he registers for said scheme can I be a selected to work with him or is it like pulling a name from a hat?

4. What are (if any) the implications of this 'set-up'?

5. Any advice otherwise as im happy to help him to get experience, but obviously I cant afford to work for free and it seems unfair if he is always paying me out of his pocket as im sure im slower than he would be on his own due to my inquisitive nature and the constant need of him checking the quality of my work as he will be the duty holder.

6. there is no six, thanks any advice would be most obliged.

It would probably mean a lot of additional paperwork and insurance, but I see no reason why he cannot qualify, worth getting him to talk it through with an apprenticeship adviser, they will help him meet the requirements, and are best placed to advise on this matter.

You can call them on 08000 150 600

Thank you for a prompt reply. I have already briefly browsed the net and printed some info and highlighted specific parts I was just curious as to whether or not to expect any hiccups or iffy requirements that would perhaps put an employer off. The way I see it though is as long as he receives some subsidisation in regards to me then surely its better than just employing me

Yes indeed, I see you point.

He should be fine, they are really good at being able to provide advice and support, after all they are desperate to get under 25s into some sort of training.

Just get him to give them a call they will do the rest !
