The Government have announced that the grant system in place for 2012, has now been extended to the end of 2013, so all you wannabee apprentices, you need to be telling the companies that you apply to, that there are grants available if they employ an apprentice, however as with all these things, there are conditions attached.

Nah it's 24, that's when the gov. don't help pay for your education. I guess an apprentice's pay runs past £1,500 and beyond. I'm currently looking for an apprenticeship and all the companies i contact, they're not interested.

The £1500 is a one off payment to the employer, the college fees are picked up by the government depending on age.
I personally think that the national minimum wage is a joke for first year apprentices. But this payment is to help the company pay the apprentices wage, and at minimum rate it is about a third of the annual wage, as i said, its a joke. Thankfully, most companies take on apprentices for the right reasons, to improve the business long term, and pay them a decent wage above the minimum.
Even at minimum wage, an apprentice is getting to learn a trade, and once the apprenticeship is completed, they dont have a massive student loan debt, unlike graduates.
