Hello people,

I have applied for an Electrical Apprenticeship with a large local company, and was lucky enough to get invited to take an aptitude test. I was successful enough to be invited for an interview. They told me when I arrived it would be a relaxed interview to get to know me as a person. At the interview was myself (obviously), the Human Resources Manager and the Apprenticeship Recruitment person. They said the interview would last 20 mins but they kept me for a good 30 mins (good news?). They asked me what I do in my spare time and why does the electrical industry interest me. I think this interview went really well.

They will tell me by Friday if I am successful enough to be invited to the next round of interviews, which they said will be hard. If I'm lucky enough to get to the next round, what other questions could they ask? At the next interview will be everyone from the last interview plus a couple of engineers. If I get the apprenticeship I will spend time working with these engineers.

So my question is how do I prepare and what questions could they ask. I really want this Apprenticeship, this company has a reputation for being tough on selecting Apprenticeships.

Thanks, FunkyWizard

I guarantee you if they weren't very interested in you as an suitable applicant the interview would have been 10 minutes short, not ten minutes longer so take that as a good sign.

You can only do so much preparation, the selection process is about finding the most suitable applicant(s), not necessarily the most knowledgeable or the most clever. I'd definitely do some extensive homework on the company, find out everything about them including their fields of core business as well as the fields they're expanding into. Figure out how over the next few years you might fit in, evolve and become an asset, in the 3rd stage of selection it would be appropriate to make them aware you're thinking along these lines.
