Just in the process of getting my JIB card, I have my 2330 lvl 2+3, 17th and ECS. I was going to sit the NVQ lvl3 last term but opted out purely because I was only interested in domestic work. Now the way work is I work on a big site. Im looking to jump on the olympics-I know you need a JIB card.

What im asking is if there is a fast track way of completing the NVQ lvl3, I know you need 3 jobs to complete the course which isn't a problem. I also heard if you complete the 2391 (which im looking to do anyway) this also get you a full JIB card as well as 6 years work on the tools?

Im sure someone know's the system better than me, Ideally I would like to skip the NVQ and do the 2391

Hello! You should be able to get ELECTRICIAN grade no probs, but to get APPROVED ELECTRICIAN I believe you need a degree of supervisory experience but the company you work for may well sign your application and give full support to it, you gotta try it. Good luck mate!;)

My then employer listed all my qualifications, 2381 16th & 17th, 2391, DEI Course, 2377, App Building Regs Part P, CSCS, two years exp on domestic, commercial and industrial, plus the fact I have been in the electrical industry (albeit aircraft) for 22yrs and my JIB card arrived with my quals on the back inc. 'Industry Assessed'. No NVQ.....

Yeah, but that's only possible if the qualifications are pre-1996 or something like that.

so if i just get a electrical job and tell my employer to list down all my qualifications on a letter and send it of with my ecs form to the jib you telling me they would still give you the card..im sure the jib still would want to see proof rather then just a letter on its own with the application form

I believe that without an NVQ the most they would award would be Provisional Grading, which would require you to undertake the NVQ before being granted full Grading.

Recently renewed my card no problem, valid from 24.10.2010 for three years. My previous card had expired May 2008. Had to sit another ECS H&S Assessment of course, and sent in my 2382-20 which I took previously in February 2008 together with £15 renewal fee.

Sent in a new photo because the fit old fart on the previous card is now an older unfit fatter old fart. The only difference between the old and new card, besides the photo, is what’s written on the back. Instead of 16th Edition, it now reads 17th Edition. Completed Apprenticeship and C&G 2391 being on both current and previous cards, as is Installation Electrician/Maintenance Electrician and JIB Grade : Approved Electrician. Oh, and one other change, the National Insurance number has been replaced by a card issue number.

Previous to both cards, I had several “UK Register of Electricians” cards. Other papers sat include BS7671:2004(2381-01), 16th Edition(2380-01), 15th Edition, C&G ‘A’ and ‘B’ Certificates Electrical Installation together with a JIB Apprenticeship Completion Diploma.

No AM1/AM2, NVQ3, so what’s the problem ?

people seems to forget just what the nvq is it is a collection of the following l2-3 2330 tech cert, am2, portfolio of evidence including 3 onsite assessments from your nvq assessor

It's called granfather rights, if you have previously had a JIB card before the above you still get one, I first got my card in 1977 and never had a problem.:D

It’s sad that you had to say no more money to them for them to pull their fingers out.
