Hi all new to the forum, hope everyone's keeping busy.
I've been toying with the idea of going on my own next year as its a little itch that's just won't go away! So I've been thinking of how to drum up contacts business etc, I'm going to go a small job at someone's house who I went school with tomorrow (wire in remote room stat) he's an architect. I was thinking of putting the word out to him that I am wanting to go on my own, and see if he would be able to put any work my way.
My question is this has anybody out there had any success with architects as a work source?

To directly answer your question - no, but I've only got 1 architect on my web of local contacts.

Building a large range of contacts is a must for anyone going alone!

Thanks for the reply Murdoch, I understand that various contacts is required for going alone I know it must be tough out there, just thought this might be a good place to start to set the wheels in motion so to speak as one contact can give a lead to another and so on. Does your architect contact bring you much work to tender or price for? If you don't mind me asking?

Avoid architects if you can.
have you seen the generic nonsense that gets put on drawings these days?
they underprice jobs by at least half and when mrs smith gets the tenders back from
contractors the 40k extension has jumped to 80k, end result can't afford the extension no job goes ahead.
architect paid for his work of course.
the architect/surveyor types will pick your brains at every opportunity and when it goes wrong point the blame game in your direction wether its your fault or not.
has anyone else got picked up on a rate for say tray work p/ metre saying its too expensive?
ask one of them how he gets a rate and he can't tell you ,he just looks at what suicidal rates are on the go and picks one.
professionals my arse. Tweed jacket leather patched liars more like!
certainly ask him but don't be taken in by promises of loads of work etc cos it won't happen

Thanks Dcf sounds like your speaking from experience! I'll still be asking but won't get in by the pater if he starts spouting it, I always try and take promises of a shed load of work as they very rarely back up the bulls**t

As I previously wrote - no, meaning no success so far. You need many eggs in many baskets to make going SE work and these take time to build up.

People won't use or spec you because you say you are the best, or the cheapest, or the most reliable - people refer you because they've seen how you work!

Ok with you now still going to put it to him you never know.....
Hoping to get them eggs out just starting to feather the nest for next year :)

My brothers one and he can be a ball bag trying to dive prices down to make his drawing realistic and doable as more less said above, if they registered architect with R I B .... They ain't ment to be seen with favouisim or gaining from giving out work.. Something like that you know what I mean... But they do have contacts which shouldn't be missed ..

Dear
Google but ıt ıs not gıve a specific one .I found more and more what I want it is simple one .
So take the ones you have found and adapt them to your situation (which incidentally we have no idea what that is) it's what most of us here have done.
