Phil

now we all know the risks etc that come with working around it and most of us will take precautions so we don`t end up falling victims but i must admit after reading this article that i never really thought of it affecting the wife in this way

I have to agree with you Phill

It has never entered my mind the possible effects on the Mrs
I try to be a bravado type, saying "whats done is done" and "I am not too concerned",but the Mrs could be an innocent party to a nasty disease, which may have affected many women unkowingly

Good post

I lost my Uncle in a similar way, he had worked in a factory as a young man, but just as an office worker in a factory producing it, but he had also was old enough to have played on bomb sites as a kid, a truly awefull way to see someone go

I think the effects on others around me is the reason I take it so seriously... obviously I care about my own welfare, but I'm probably going to go to liver cirrhosis at this rate lol, if it was only me it would affect, I'm not sure I'd be so careful. I often finish drilling artex and have the thought 'oh, balls to it, I ain't cleaning ut up. It's probably not even contaminated what's it going to hurt?' Then I get this niggling voice 'some baby might start crawling in it' so I clean it up!

Couldn't have that on my conscience, though sometimes I do wish I was more of a barsteward after a long day!

Well guys think most of you know my feelings on the stuff with the posts ive put up , but one area no one ever mentions well ive not seen it , i spotted it at my mother in laws her ironing board , the rest for her iron was asbestos and worn to hell , she died of lung and bowel cancer could this all be related to her ironing and dont say it wont happen to me 2 spark mate have now died from it were all at risk

i know for a fact i got exposed to it as an apprentice after being told "it`s fine lad don`t be soft just get on with it. it takes a lot more than that to do any damage"
wonder how many others who knew no better like i didn`t got told the same. evry apprentice i come into contact with get the lecture i know most will just ignore it but at least they have been told unlike me and hopefully a few may listen.

in my last job i did a periodic and the ceiling where the asbestos was so i wrote on the sheet asbestos and high lighted it with yellow marker , the other lad went in and smashed 2 holes in the ceiling in front of a guy from the council i get called into the office and basically torn appart for not telling any one , well untill they ended up with red faces when my supervisor pulled the inspection report out . any how in the 70's we didnt know better as a kid i used to draw with it like chalk how were we to know and after surveying for the stuff and seeing the devistation it can do all i can say is think and be safe , but its the i dont care attitude for the young lads base ball caps trainers and chew gum guys , sorry young guys dont mean to tar you all with the same brush
