Got mine next month, taking him to a board change i've done one thing worrying me isolation how did i do it ? i mean i know how i did it but can i say yeah i whiped the dno fuse out, is it worth poping back and fitting a kmf 80 between the board and cut out ? it's a good friend and could handle the losing the £20.00 cost .

would apriceate your input

Don't worry about it mate, most assessors are time served Sparks who are well aware of this situation. All you need to do is be able justify your actions if he questions you about it ie. You safely isolated the installation by pulling the cut-out fuse because the seals were missing. Safe Isolation was necessary to ensure the installation was in a proven deenergised state to allow you to work safely, complying with EAWR:1989 Regulation 14 No person shall be engaged in any work activity on or near any live conductor (other than one suitably covered with insulating material so as to prevent danger) that danger may arise unless - a) it is unreasonable in all circumstances for it to be dead; and b) it is reasonable in all the circumstances for him to be at work on or near it while it is live; and c) suitable precautions (including where necessary the provision of suitable protective equipment) are taken to prevent injury. Such work is permitted only if conditions a) and b) and c) are satisfied, ‘Work’ is not confined to electrical work but includes any work activity.
In case he/she asks you demonstrate the safe isolation procedure, ensure you know how to do it step by step and that you have the necessary safety equipment.

I'm returning to the industry and wondered about this very question. I contacted my DNO, who replied and stated
'In the situation where you need to remove the cut-out fuse, if you call our department (Engineering Bureau) we will be able to inform you of the depot which covers the area you will be working in and give you a telephone number for their general enquiries line; as well as updating the customers account so a permanent seal can be fitted in due course. The depot will be able to give you their address so you can collect temporary seals (a maximum of 5 unless you can provide address' for their use) to re-seal the cut-out after you have worked there. The horse has sort of bolted now, but you could try and explain you will be assessed etc.

Blimey! if i could remember all that lot off the top of my head with an inspector next to me i would be applying for jobs as a brain surgeon not going for my Part P!:74:

Dont worry bout that mate. All you did was pull a fuse that wasn't sealed when you got there....remember?
This is the last thing assessors are worried about, it has nothing to do with electrical safety

Or Part P of the building regs which is what the assessment is about after all of the 3 hours he spent with me he spent less than 15 mins looking at any work i did, and then he didnt look at the work he was more intersted in the couple of tests i did and how i understood what the results meant.
The seals on my main fuse had fallen of also.
