I'd like to put 3.040kW on one tracker (16xUpsolar 190M, Vm 36.3, Im 5.23, Voc 45.1, Isc 5.55 and power tolerance +-3%) as two strings of 8 so Voc max would be 360.8 and Isc 11.1. so well within the current and voltage input limits of each tracker however the total power input would be 3040W ie over the 3kW input limit albeit only by 40W. In reality, is this going to be a problem or will the tracker just find a less optimum point on the IV curve?

PS, the string tool says no but in reality will it harm the inverter, warranty issues notwithstanding...

If your putting them onto one input there is a jumper cable inside that needs to be moved, otherwise the inverter tries, not very well, to split the voltage itself between the 2 trackers. It's in the manual someowhere and not that clear, took 3 sparkies to work it out the first time we came accross it!
Didn't bother doing it again after that, seemed a bit pointless. If you have 2 trackers use them

Thanks. I want to free up the second tracker for a different roof orientation. I will have a look at the jumper function in the literature. Cheers!

But re the original question, will going over the wattage input by 40W do any damage, hard to see how it would?

You generally can't damage an inverter unless you go outside the voltage paramaters.

I've not done the sums but if it looks like it will go on one tracker then there is no issue. However, if you want to use both trackers for a different orientation then make sure the inputs are set up as independent rather than parallel.

How many panels are you thinking of putting on the other orientation? Would a bigger inverter not be a better idea?

Thanks. The inputs are already set up as independant. I want to move some of the panels from the SE roof to a SW roof to lengthen the production time.
