Hi im a new member, just thought i'd say hello - so hello!

im not normally a moaner, but i was just looking at the b&q website, and cant believe that there are open questions from "the public" being answered by idiots, honestly the advice given sounds like it's coming from a 1st year apprentice, who's asleep. Surely something should be done, the only answer should be "you have no bloody idea, call someone who does" not yeah join all the wires together, it'll be fine mate, grrrrrrrrr!

Hello Badwolf! Keeps us all in a job......put all the pretty red wires together and all the dirty black ones, stand in the metal bath and turn it all on.....

lolol

That reminds me of the call we get at least once a month and goes....

"I was changing the light, took the old one down, put the new one up, then I joined all the red ones together then all the black ones together, separately you know proper like. Now when I switch the light on it goes bang and it trips out"

Then you go round find the black coloured switched live connect it correctly, then go back to eating your dinner.

Anyway regarding the original post think I'm gonna set up a diy store campaign.

The fact that in the wickes catalogue (and if you remember in that other post wickes were the most electrical / Part P aware in the tests I did) states gas boilers must be fitted by a gas safe engineer, and wickes are working hard to promote.....blah blah....
In the consumer unit section........................ Nothing...... Nowt.... Doesn't even say if you get a tingling felling from the live board you are playing with, ask for help!

Anyway rant over

GO TO THE PETROL STATION GET SOME FUEL AND TORCH YOUR HOUSE!!!

at least you will be outside when it goes up and not stood on a kitchen chair with a bread knife holding the wires

welcome to the forum mate :)
after being on here for a feew months and reading the posts from others I have noticed what a great set of guys and girls there are on here. I have been to a couple of other forums and well lets say not too impressed by some of the people on there. someone asks a genuine question and gets ripped down torn into or just does not get an answer? breath of fresh air this one is :)

apparently "round" drylining boxes doent exist in B&Q.... never been made ever!! shame that seen as they sell them on there website!!

not that i would want to shop there any way but my friend wanted 1 so i told him to go there!! such a mistake!!

THANKS :)

I totally agree this is the best forum..... and I have 1st had experience of being torn down.. They're like vultures.

I simply said that I sometimes use a socket tester (with buzzer) to locate MCBs (you know the four one's generic marked with sockets). They then turned it in to the Dufjax guide to safe isolation, which the post wasn't intended to be and I never even commented on isolation.
They decided that I was either a 5 day wonder or a DIY, and every other post I even commented on I got flamed.

So please feel free to use a socket tester to find the correct mcb BUT ALWAYS follow safe isolation procedures!!!!

glad I didnt post i had done the same then :) night club two borads 45+ breakers none marked up and the ones that are normally wrongly marked. socket buzzer was the way to go. everyone and the dog had had a hand in on the installation before. turned out to be on one of the 6 amp lighting curcuits :( took all of 45 seconds to locate (Before I then performed safe isolation) nothing wrong with that one m8. the alarm was also wired off the same mcb with the auto dialer every time they had a lamp blow out it would set off the alarm. alarm company - upset manager being woken up early every couple of days :) pubs are just as bad any bit of twin is fair game to be extended to any thing hanging off it. shouldnt moan it has paid for a few holidays putting it right in the past :)

Well I'm glad I got the caning
To be honest I reckon some of them now use this method them selves. Probably include it in the next set of reg they wite!

And I know what you mean about night clubs and pubs used to be a DJ, actually gave up my career just after my apprenticeship. They don't want to spend any money on anything, cut corners left right and centre. Used to work in a big club 3.5k capacity and the fire alarm hadn't worked in yonks!!. It was also up two flight of stairs and the emergency stairs were padlocked!!

sounds like the one i was asked to commission for the insurance cert a couple of years ago. they had split the club into two fire alarm and emergancy lights and controls on both premises in a right mess, turned the emer lights on to batt, they held out for like 15 mins. wow fire alarm was silent when we set it off. owner said cant you just put a cert on it and illl get you back to fix it  yeh right.... hows about you get me a sign with my name on it for the cell door. a month later it was on the news burnt to a crisp. arson.. I wonder if the said certificates were all inside the building? or if some numpty had actually put there name to one
