For a Mechanical Engineer, challenges don’t come any bigger than this…

In this role you’ll be responsible for the key capability of a nuclear submarine – the secondary propulsion plant that powers and propels the platform.

Key technologies such as the Electric Cruise Propulsion, Main Turbines, Condensers and Turbo Generators are complex, high precision, multi-million pound systems and you’ll be right at the heart of their design, development and testing.

This is a role that requires your full involvement and in return you’ll be able to progress your career and develop skills as a technical specialist or take management routes as Consultant Engineer, Engineering Manager or Assistant Chief Engineer.
The Local area has some fantastic beaches and areas to live that are 10 minutes to walk from work. The South Lakes is a fantastic area for water sports and walking. Lakeland town of Ulverston is 20 minutes drive away and is a busy market and Festival town with events all year round.

You will be working with innovative technology and have the opportunity to influence, at an early stage, the design and development of the Future Submarine programme.

As a Mechanical Engineer your main responsibilities will include;
• To execute, evaluate, deliver and manage complex engineering and/or cross functional tasks or programmes of work recognising stakeholder and customer requirements & identify and implement opportunities for personal and team development to ensure that professional capability of the business and individuals are maintained and improved
• The production of mechanical systems diagrams (e.g. air, hydraulics, sea water, cooling water systems) and technical specifications for pumps, compressors, etc, and, in addition, produce supporting calculations and undertake design reviews to support the issue of the diagrams
• To support the transverse teams (safety, ILS and human factors) in producing the documentation that underpins the design
• To undertake design reviews and presentations to customers
• To liaise with internal and external customers as required, ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated, where appropriate, and agreed.
• To work with BAE supply chain and equipment suppliers to deliver equipment that meets customer requirements
• To attend factory acceptance trials and submarine system trials and analysis of FAT and commissioning results when required

As an Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
• Recent Degree, minimum of a BEng 2.2 Level degree in an Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering based subject
• Enthusiastic
• Desire and willingness to learn and progress within the organisation
• Ability to Problem solve
• Ability to work within a Team
• Ability to communicate effectively to various audiences
