Great return to work, managed to short circuit L & N on a brand new TPN db,took out mccb back in mains room. But completely ruined TPN DB,really surprised me,main switch blackened but ok when tested, but inner live rails giving poor IR results including neutral.Anyone else come across this.

complete accident when installing cable,it's a Schindler 12 way TPN DB,lots a black soot & smell of burning ,no visual sign of damage, but it does look a mess.Could it be the ionization of the fault causing the poor IR results, obviously conductive.

Something similar happened that I heard about recently. All new switch gear installed, new installation but alterations made before finally commissioned. Anyhow, not long after put into use, basically the whole thing blew up! Everything burnt out inc 400amp swicth gear. All the mcb's had black what looked like soot dust marks. it looked liked the whole installation had been struck by lightning. It would appear that an armoured cable shorted out within some metal stud work. But for whatever reason it messed up the whole installation.

The older Schneider DB's 3phase had exposed busbars at the rear of the main switch where it linked from the switch to the main carriage, a cover protected them at the front but anyone pushing cables behind would lead the risk of shorting out the phases with only the upstream OCPD to protect them, the risk is very high if you shove T&E behind before sleeving the earth, modern versions of the DB now have been designed so this cannot happen anymore. I've seen it done many yrs ago where the main switch turned into an electrical fire ball as the front end was the cutout which had been bodged.

Been there, done that, lost the eyebrows!
