Hi all

I've bene looking into pat testers recently and was wondering what is the use of a scanner.. I mean on the initial test do you have to put in item details then when you retest next time it knows what the item is. Is there any real benefit from using one? I'll be looking for a downloadable tester so reports can be printed off, but from past experiance items can be lost / thrown out year to year so again how does a scanner help.

The idea is the next time you come to test the appliance the tester knows what it is, what tests to run, and what the previous year's results were, so it can compare them.
If you're going to be testing the same equipment time and again (like hire shops are supposed to) i can see a scanner being beneficial, but if just the once I can see it just being an inconvenience.
