Hi All,
I am hoping you guys can clear up some confusion im having over an epc survey.
one of my customers has asked me to quote for a an 11kw system on a barn.
My question is do i need a commercial epc for that?
I am i right in thinking that because its only used as storage and the fact that he would not need one to sell it that i doesn`t need one?

Any advise would be greatly appricated

Thanks

Is the solar pv system wired to provide electrcity to another property which has heating or colling? If so that property will need an EPC of D or above to get the higher feed in tariff

If the barn is not heated or cooled and the PV system fed directly into the grid an EPC will not be required.

Why are you aiming for 11 kW by the way is that would fall into the 10-50 kW feed in tariff rate if an EPC of D is gained.

Thanks for your quick response ian,the barn has no heating or cooling and has its own three phase supply feeding lighting and power circuits only.
we have decided on an 11kw system as this is the maximum you are allowed under g83 we would have liked to go for a bigger system but g59 applications take a lot longer to sort out and with the looming fit deadline approching i think this would be he safer option before they cut the rates again.

You will need to get a DEA tp rpvide a letter stating that an EPC is not possible for the barn to submit alongside the feed in tariff application along with the ofegm energy efficiency declaration stating an EPC is not required. This is in the Ofgem guidance released on 30th march

You would probably need a commercial energy assessor to write the letter.

Probably a silly question, but as its three phase can you put a sub 4kW system on each phase and get the higher rate?

Put 10 kw on use three phase inverter and you will get 16.8p rate. Go over 10 kw and youll get 15.2p.

Fit is based on total installed capacity for one mpan number or address not each individual phase on three phase supply

It probably would not be worth doing 11 kw. Also, think of best inverter match and costs for that. For you and your customer.

G59 Application may not take as long as you think. Do not let that worry you unduly, we have put in two G59 applications to our DNO UK POWER NETWORKS and had responses on both of them within 10 working days.
