Hi all, I think this classes as a "newbie" style question, but any helpful experience gratefully received.

My employer wants to install a CCTV camera at the entrance to the premises, the cable has been run and basically everything's ready to go, but we want to put an isolation point near the camera. The plan is to mount a metal enclosure and break into the cable to install an isolator, with the possibility of taking a spur or adding a CEE socket to the enclosure in future.

Basic stuff, I'm sure, but I'd rather admit my lack of experience and ask the question, so I'm just wondering about the options for (a) physically mounting the enclosure and which type to choose, (b) which type of isolator to use as this is just a single-phase feed supplying one component, and (c) how best to split the supply to add a CEE socket / take a spur.

Everything will be inspected before and after installation, and tested fully, but it's a kind of test for me to get it designed properly before the work goes ahead.

Cheers.

Ok, sorted for an enclosure and mounting poles, I assume I just need a basic 2-pole isolator with appropriate IP rating?

Wondering now what the regs are for mounting outdoor enclosures above ground level... not found anything so far - any clues, or is there no minimum?

Will depend on what your going to class this "enclosure" as. will it be for switching, isolation or simple connection.

Whatever it is you still need to adhere to regulation 132.12 for accessibility.

This is no hard or defined reg regarding heights for equipment in this instance. Fire fighters switch does have recommendation in reg 537.6.3 (iii) and several of the special locations such as marinas, caravan sites have recommendations on minimum heights for cable, but again not for equipment.

This sounds sane to me:

I put on my red/black stripped jumper.
Go to the property that has CCTV (not good).
Mooch around the property and find the isolator for the CCTV (very thoughtful).
Plunder the place, my mate can even back the van in now the cameras are turned off.

You’re Burglar Bill’s best mate.

ah, but perhaps the client wants it turned off on his wife's bingo night, when his secretary visits.

514.14.1
If you still have any of the old red/black jumpers you must have a notice that says "This jumper has colours to the old version of BS7671. Great care should be taken before undertaking any burglary."

OK, keep the body red/black but make the sleeves brown/blue. don't forget the label warning of 2 different colours of wool used .
