Ive just installed some down lights in a bathroom and another electrician has been in and said there illigal...
I have put 6 GU10 90Min Rated down lights in one of which is a IP shower light.
The IP light above the shower cubical two above a bath with no shower and the other three along the other side of the room, ive always done things like this never thought any different but is above 2.25M not in zone 1?? so its a normal fitting as long as there is no shower or high point of water?
I presume by illigal the other electrician means that all the lights should be IP rated?
Please help!
Dont want to get into trouble by this one looks like he might report me! Ill have to go change them if its wrong, But the regs dont seam to be very understanding.

what was the full comment? did he attemp to justify why they were " Illegal" but if there above the 2.25 there out of zone and if the controls are out of zone as well the terminal ( i am assuming there in the loft) and sutibally IP rated whats the problem. If he makes a statemnt he should be able to Justify it.

Or did he say its illegal as this work is classed as a special location and should have been installed by a registered electrician??

should they be protected by an RCD?

I do alot of disabled bathrooms and always run a new circuit for the bathroom lights and put it on a separate RCBO or RCD Board (if the house is still on rewirables.)

Im Registered Elecsa and on rcd...
The only thing i can think of is ZONES.

If they are installed outside of zones then its fine. Its up to him to prove that its against regs.

Without seeing what you have done its not easy.

Personally i would have installed all the same IP fittings regardless of zones.

Agreed.

Although as has been said what you have done is certainly not illegal as the regs are a non-stautory document anyway. Dont worry about it what you have done is fine.
