Hi all,

I am about to embark on a bathroom rejuvenation programme......deep joy! At the minute I Have no extractor fan fitted...... Just a hole where there once was one. The room is a toilet and bathroom knocked into one so it has two light fittings.....one of them is now unused but still has the switch outside the door for it. My question is would it be possible to run some wire from the disused light fitting to the fan and use the old light switch as the on off switch for the fan? I don't intend to do this myself as I am having more electrical work done next month....... But I am fitting a false ceiling in the bathroom so it would be ideal to route the wiring now before work starts.....rather than tear chunks in my freshly plastered ceilings and walls next month. If this is possible what sort of electrical cable should I use?
Thanks for your time everybody and I look forward to hearing if this is a stupid idea!!!!!!!

Cheers.
Pete

all depends on what type of fan, and whether you want it to run on on timer. best bet is to get your electrician to pop round and either he'll install the cable or tell you what to install, before the false ceiling goes in. better to spend ÂŁ40 now than ÂŁ150 later when you've fitted the wrong cable.

I would put in a 3 core and earth even if you done use the 3rd core its there if needed dont forget the fused spur / fan isolator for the fan most manufacturers require them these days

Thanks for the advice.... My sparky is away on holiday for a couple of weeks.......think I will just leave that part of the ceiling accessible for now.......best play safe. Thanks again.
