As we dont do much domestic work on our firm I'm looking for recommendations on a bathroom fan for my own bathroom.
Needs to be of the in-line, loft mount variety with overrun timer.
Needs to have a decent extract rate as I don't want my nice new ceiling going moldy again!
Is it best to vent through a flap vent (core drilled through the side of the house at high level) or to fit a tile vent?
Thanks in advance!

Tile vent is expensive so go for the vent through wall. I would go for just a grill not flap vent as in a wind it will drive you crazy! You will not get a back draft with an inline fan. If you want something decent go for a Vent Axia. It is 3 times the size of a cheapy, 3 times better and 3 times as expensive!

Fitted a few Manrose fans and they seem good enough. Got one in my bathroom and only the tops few mils of the mirror steam up when it's running and the showers on full pelt. Decent enough accessories with it and plenty of ducting.

Cheers guys.
I've seen the manrose MF100T unit, looks a decent size and comes with 3 yr warranty but looks like its just the fan and I'd need to buy the grilles and hose separately.
Have all inline fans got the backdraft flaps inside TopCat? The kitchen cooker hood has gravity flaps and drive me up the wall, must replace with a grille!

Roof tile vent will only cost me about ÂŁ30 though (roofer in family)

Many thanks
ash

Cheers for that mate, not too keen on the look of those though! Ordered a manrose 4" inline mixed flow so that should do the trick.

Highly recommend Airflow iCON fans. Haven't had to replace one yet.

Wish i could say the same. the local council changed to these last year and it was all i could fit and have so far had a 50% hit rate with replacing them. turns out a bad batch was about and i got all of them. good fan when they work though but it somewhat puts you off after changing 30 or so.

Ouch. Luck of the draw though. I won't be touching C.K. Screwdrivers again for the same reason (dodgy batch).

Each to their own on the looks front, I think the Manrose ones are hideous lol.

The problem with a tile vent is the vertical run, the steam is just going to condensate, run back down, and then drown the fan. You should fit a drain off tube if you're going vertical to stop this happening, so its easier to vent out through the wall, and ideally lower than the fan is mounted. And the back draft flaps in the Manrose fans just pull out if you don't want them.

I would buy something of half decent quality. Anything cheap never lasts the pace. Vent Axia or Manrose. Probably more towards VA.

And always fit a fan isolator. Some folk ignore. Trust me, fit it.
