Hi , new to this forum, looks like a great source of information.

Havin trouble finding information in the regs book about bathroom fan isolators ie... is a dp isolator required or can the fan just be run through a normal sp light switch?

customer doesn't want fan to come on with light just on the humidistat, is this poss?

any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers.

All live conductors to a fan must have a isolation switch provided. Live means a conductor that carries current so live, nutural and if applicable the switch live.
Hope this helps

Building Regs page 132 "Extract fans may be manually operated or automatically controlled. Humidity control of extract ventilation is recognised as reducing the risk of condensation and mould growth, but is not suitable for sanitary accommodation."

Hope that helps

think ive just found it under 'switching off for mechanical maintanence'

so am i right in thinking i can put a tp isolator in line and still switch the fan on and off via a light switch? as this is what the customer wants.

Light is ok customer wanted humidistat control from your first post so if he argues with you I have given the relevant page of the regs for you.

im not sure if i understand.... so i cant fit a fan in a domestic bathroom if it has a built in humidistat? sorry if i seem a little thick, ha.

You can fit it no problem its just that if its for sanitory reasons it cannot be controlled by the humidifier. If your customer has a window that can be opened that could put a different light on it excuse the pun:)
