Had to remove a led strip from a bathroom today because it’s getting tiled, now the led strip that was there was low voltage but didn’t have anything covering it. I’ve seen the wee aluminium profile things before, is this something that the led strip should be fitted in when in a bathroom? It was fitted in a wee alcove type bit and wasn’t really able to be touched as such. Only ever done one before in a kitchen

Some LED strips, typically those IP rated, have a silicone covering moulded on and can be used in bathrooms as they are.
If your strip is like that then the profile is really just for looks.

If your strip is driven from a Class III separated extra low voltage driver, (it would have SELV written on it) then even if the strip has 'bare' components and copper, I don't think profile is required by regulation, but you might choose to use it again for looks and protection from splashes!

The Schluter LED strips come in up down or straight emitting lights and have cutting marks where they can be shortened, they also come with a silicone compound and end cap to maintain their IP rating, can't recommend they highly enough.

It is expensive, but you get what you pay for, they replaced a faulty transformer free of charge and did not ask for the old one back before they would send out the replacement to France, so not inexpensive for them, makes a change for someone to stand by a guarantee no questions asked.

You can buy Aluminium profile on 1 metre lengths from any wholesaler, and possibly online cheaper from that south American river place.

I buy standard profile from Amazon, which is identical to that offered by local wholesalers and considerably cheaper. The only discernable difference is delivery from Amazon is 1m lengths, whereas wholesalers stock 2m lengths.

I did LED tape for a customer around the shelves of his “media wall”
Got it from CEF, along with 1m lengths of profile and cover.

And I can’t really say there’s much of a quality difference between it and the cheap stuff from Amazon.

The little flat remote control is near identical.

I put cheap stuff under the shelves in the back of my van, Bluetooth controlled from my phone and changes in time with music….

Disco van!

I wouldn't expect anything different from someone who supplied faulty goods.
