Hi Guys,

I have a Question: If there is a batten lamp holder with a 60W bc lamp in it, at a hight of 2.6 meters in a bathroom.
What code should it be? :whatchutalkingabout

None because as at 2.6 meters it's not in a zone however if water jets are likely to be used to clean the bathroom the I would code it appropriately.

Actually minimum degree of protection is IP2X.....not sure what the IP rating of a standard BH is? Certainly with the lamp removed it's not going to be IP2X

Edit.....416.2.4 exemps lampholders from the barriers/enclosures regulations so it comes down to whether a standard BH is IP2X with the lamp in which it presumably is.

? i doubt it, the ip2x downlighters are called

shower rated not bathroom, outside zones so no code

OSG states minimum IP2X for bathrooms outside of the zones.
IP2X downlights would not be shower rated....the second number refers to ingress protection of liquid,so a shower rated light would not have a liquid IP rating of X

I know it is outside the zones, but where is it in relation to the bath/shower?

If it is directly above, or very close to being so, then it at least warrants a mention in my view.

The occupier could decide to put a 100W halogen in, and they don't tend to like splashes of water when they are up to full temperature. I would possibly C3 it if the fitting was directly above a shower head. The shower head could be at a height of 2 metres, so water reaching 2.6m is entirely feasible. Steam may be an issue also.....

At the end of the day it's your call, taking numerous factors into account.
