Bathroom lighting

Just

Hi, I know bathroom work is generally notifiable, but the existing lighting circuit is fine I just want to change the downlights to sealed fire rated cans as the insulation is over the top of 50w lamps in poor holders. As this is like for dislike and no change to existing circuit is this still notifiable?

Cheers.

like for like non notifiable as long as you are not adding extra lights and/or cabling. take this notifiable pony and trap much further, they'll have us notifying a light bulb replacement if it's in a batrhroom.

This is where me and Tel have fisty cuffs lol , it depends how they have been wired if they have been wired correctly with flex from a jb which connects to the twin and earth wiring then no notifcation is required , however if the twin and earths are wired into the back of the fitting and the circuit has to be broken then a minor works certificate will have to be issued this as its a special location will then require notifying ,agree with the light bulb thing mind
hand you should check out the haler evo light cost about 345 note each but with a 40,000 hour lamp life and 7 year warrenty and a wattage of only 7.9 watts and very little heat well worth in in running costs and lamp replacement alone

Yes they are. I always issue a minor works cert for anything not requiring an EIC but realistically does this fall under like for like.. even with flex(were you joking?) What if the can was pre-assembled with flex. This is rediculous!

i agree with you there , nick. i was assuming that the existing fittings were just to be changed. having never fitted downlights without H/R flex coming off the T/E, i did not consider that. don't fancy £345 for a fitting though. are they 9 carat?

Not singing out of tune here; I walked into one of my friends' house that he was refurbishing and noticed that the builder replaced ceiling lamp with an energy saving lamp and installed an extractor fan (which wasn’t there before) in the bathroom.

I am sure neither my friend nor the builder will let LABC know about it and in fact LABC wouldn’t have the manpower to police these activities to ensure Part P had been adhered to.

Homeowners don’t bother... builders don’t bother... LABC doesn’t bother and why do electricians (only electricians) bother?
