Hi this has proberly been discussed before but I couldn't see anything about it so thought I would open the discussion

The new part F (October 2010) comes into force in a few months

Below are some examples of work we may be asked to do and want clarification on meeting the building regs. Mainly Part F (ventilation)

1. We are called to fit a shower in a bathroom (there has only ever been a bath previously) There is no ventilation fan are we responsible for fitting one?

2. We are called to rewire a lighting circuit that also serves the bathroom am I responsible for fitting a fan if there is not one already fitted?

3. A cooker is to be replaced including the cable feeding it as it was under size, there is no extracter fan in the kitchen, are we responsible for fitting one?

So what I am asking mainly is if you go and do any works in a kitchen or bathroom and there is no current extraction facility are we responsible for fitting one under the updated part F?

Discuss.............

Thanks
Matt

Sorry for being so bloody useless.

1. dunno
2. i am pretty sure no (as long as there wasn't one before as you said)
3. i am pretty sure no ( as it is a replacement like for like)

With all this building regs stuff applying to us, every job we go into will be a full gut out refurbishment, Electricians won't be a trade anymore we'll all be refurbishment contractors :D:D

Under Building Regulations 2000, schedule 1 "the rest of the building should not be made less satisfactory in relation to the requirements than befor ethe work was carried out (see regulations 3 and 4 of the Building Regulations).

Part F Document, page 40 provides advice on work on existing buildings specific to kitchens and bathrooms.

In brief, if there is no existing ventilation system m(hood or extractor), then you do not need to provide one.

Regards

Kevin
