Hi Guys new member here. Looks like a amazing forum. You will see from my question that I'm not an electrician.
I just moved house and want to install some batten lights in the detached garage. Can I assume it would be safe to power 3 or 4, 58w 1.5m units from the wall socket in the garage?

The reason I'm thinking of doing it this way is so that I can easily take them with me when we vacate the property.

Thanks in advance

Chris

I would recommend an enclosed fitting Vapour proof with a stuffing gland using a flex with a plug top on with a 3 amp fuse ,less risk of hitting the Lamp , and also protected from the moist atmosphear and you can just un plug it ,and it easy to remove

Thanks for your reply Nick.
Screwfix have some weatherproof battens would they be suitable? They also have "switch start" and "high frequency" versions, do you know what the difference is?

Cheers

Chris

Yes the isanswer is quicker starting ,maybe less flickering but what hasnt been said HF cost less to run, with a switch start which has a block ballast there is a correction factor of 1.8 so in real terms a 70 watt flourescent - 70 x 1.8 = 126 so the loading is 126 watts not 70 ,with a HF ballast there is no correction factor so the loading is the same ,all flourescents flicker when the warm up even HF
