hi just after abit of advice really guys, i have a mate who has a beach site with 3 bouncy castle blower fan units on, a bull ride, various lights and a cctv unit, we have measured the current draw for each individual item and all of them totalled together gives us 31 amps. at the moment he has a little isolator box on his site which is fed from a 20amp type c breaker. does this need upgrading or is it ok with diversity taken into account? also would he be better with a type d? any help is much appreciated thankyou

i would say there is no divesity as all fan will be running at the same time

I agree there with these fellows.

Also, a c type MCB should be more than adequate.

Just remember that your Max EFLI for a C20 will be lower.

You talk of a little isolator box, but what is supplying it.and whats the csa of the supply cable ?
Forget going to a D type breaker that will achieve nothing. Also your max Zs will need to be much much lower than a C type to achieve disconnection times.

sorry i couldnt help myself

haha thanks for the info guys most of the gear is running all the time, i have took a reading of the gear that is going to be running all day and it totals up to 22 amps, in not 100% sure but i think it is either 4mm swa or 6mm swa im prety sure its 4mm though, do you think the breaker should be upgraded as its only 20 amp

Are all the motors left on then switched off via the MCB rather than each motor?

If he does just use the MCB then the start up of them all together may well overload the MCB.

If you want to take it up to 32A then i would recommend 6mm2.

Proteus make a 25A mcb, could be just what you need, its got me out of the proverbial in the past. Shame more manufacturers dont make them, its a big jump from 20 to 32A, especialy when you run from 6, 10, 16, then 20.By the way they also make a 2A mcb, nice protection for mains smokes or bell transformers, ect.
