What would you install pros and cons its going to be installed in a metal framed building 15 mts high in a youth centre

Most likely go for a beam pack as it could be connected to an existing panel. Also only need to fit units at each end of building where the as the aspiration system requires an additional panel plus you would need to clip the PVC tubing the full length of the building.

It's a new build I was just wondering as it's a Protec system and you know what these sales men are like his prob got a 10% commission on a sniffer unit I have a meeting with him tomorrow so I will be asking why his picked the sniffer as it's above stairs aswell access is going to be fun

Without knowing layout its hard to judge. Large open spaces, beams will be fine but are a bit slow to respond to fire. Air sampling is prefered for closed voids and open spaces as is more controllable than beams, and has a faster response time. so could be the reason for Protec requesting. Just a shame there fitting Protec rubbish.

Who has specified protec??, we only fit Gent, a decent brand speeds up installation time .

There are plenty of systems on the market, Gent, Protec, minerva etc are just easy ways for electrical companies to get out of designing and commissioning a system. The problem is the poor end customer is tied into an long expensive maintenance agreement. Most of the major building contractors are now specifing non managed or closed systems to be used on their projects.

I like the VESDA Laserfocus units, they are good to install and the panels also look very tidy when fitted in public areas such as next to the main door or at a reception......other panels sometimes look too industrial...there's also facility for sprinklers and an easy override feature if an alarm gets set off by dust or smoking etc......filters are easy to access and change by the customer as well...tubing can be fitted behind ceiling tiles with tiny vent nozzles that are barely noticable, especially good on low ceilings instead of sensor heads.....also a lot more practical than the beam units when inside non industrial buildings...

Vesda are cracking units for a wide range of situatons as all levels are programmable. A lot of architects request then so they can close the ceilings off, with no service hatches. seen Vesda used in dusty paper mills and swimming pools. Vesda have a great demo video on Youtube.
