Hi hope someone can help. I've tried 6 local electricians, 5 not turned up and the 6th wants ÂŁ55 to connect 3 wires. Spare bedroom haa no light for 10 years after ripping out all the downlights on safety grounds. Have now put a ceiling light but have no idea which wires go to which terminals in the junction box. The JB has to cables going into it one of which is the cable going to the switch. All reds are in one connection and the 2 blacks are are in seperate connections. None have tape on. Have red black and earth on cable going through to new light rose. Anyone tell me which connections in the JB do I screw my wires into please? Cheers if u can help. Will add photo if I can do it off my phone.

Where are you in England you might have some one from the forum who would come out

You would be able to find pictures of standard junction box wiring for lights on Google.
From our remote position we are not able to definitely tell which wire is which.
Therefore any advice we may give might be incorrect.
However for a junction box with two cables (assumed to actually means two) and a cable to the light the standard wiring would be like this:

If you are not confident that you know which cable is which and / or you are not confident about being able to safely isolate the lighting circuit to protect yourself from electric shock and prevent unwanted tripping during the work, then a professional replacement would be the better bet.

Cheers thats exactly like my cables are, with the exception that the switch black hasn't been taped up with red. Many thanks for saving me ÂŁ55 and loads of time.
