Following Phil d's thread on "Camoron" which has strayed into Europe I thought this could be an interesting thread to start....

Free trade (i.e. no trade barriers or import duties) was a good idea.

Well we all won the Nobel peace prize today.

I guess one of the benefits of an integrated Europe is we haven't been at war with each other for quite a while.

BBC News - Nobel Peace Prize awarded to European Union

The timing of the award seems a bit suspect, sort of like a desperate attempt to keep Europe from falling to pieces.

Just as an aside I read this interesting article about Bulgaria and Romania today and how not being full members of Europe suits some parts of the construction industry:

Cheap, and far from free: The migrant army building Britain

Brilliant comment.

I think that the German position on the debts is likely to cause more issues for Europe for years to come. The idiots in Brusselles need to accept defeat and allow the Southern Europeans/Ireland to leave and have their own currencies back. Thank god Gordon Brown didn't let Tony Blair allow us to take up the Euro. That is the ONLY thing that dear old Gordon did correctly in all his time in number 11 and number 10

On a purely selfish note, I gained my Polish wife as a result of Poland becoming part of the EU, and hence I now have my son, none of which would have happened otherwise. She is gorgeous.....not sure what she sees in me but I'm not one to complain ;)
