As long as its an inch or 2 clear then 12V or mains should be fine, or better still, CFL's.

Having said that, make sure there is room around the fitting for the transformers are clear of the fittings.

Re: ? best type of down light for volted roof insulated with sellotex board insulatio

its going to be controlled by a richmond dimming controls so i dont think i can use low energy fittings was going to use 12 v mains to avoid any issues with the transformers i wonderd if the fire rated down lights would have any usfull qualitys eg containing heat , il have to use these on the ground floor anyway for the fire rating.
+ the cables all wired with FP200 white ? because of the thermal affects on the cables ?

Aurora do a range of fire and acoustically rated D/L which you can cover with insulation
Some CFL's can be controlled by Richmond Kit

FP proberly used to comply with cable protection ( metal sheath 17th )

The regs list a selections of cable types suitable, fp is not on the list. This was brought up on the C&G corse I did.

Reg 522.6.5.

i dident think there was a problem with the fp200 type cable its got a cpc and is double insulated and made to withstand high tempretures i was just wondering if it was used to help with the thermal affects of the insulation

Re: ? best type of down light for volted roof insulated with sellotex board insulatio

I cant see any problem with FP as a general mains cable, I just dont think it can be used as a protective measure to not protect the cable with a RCD if burried less than 50mm

Re: ? best type of down light for volted roof insulated with sellotex board insulatio

Ye it will def need rcd protection the previous sparks has used this cable anywere there is celotex and pvc in non insulated areas
