hi there I have started a k ew job we're there is not very much overtime which I have been used to lots of. homers is something I have never really bothered about as the overtime has been available however as there is none now I was wondering if yous could give me some advice on the best ways of going about getting homers ?

And if you use your own car for it then make sure you get it insured for business use.

Can employers really stipulate this?

Yes.

You could be stealing work from them.
You could be stealing materials from them
You could be using their test equipment and or tools/plant for your own gain
You could be working all weekend / night on your own work then falling asleep at your day job.
You could be out in the day whilst paid by them, quoting for your own work.

I'm looking at the same if O/T runs out but luckily not yet as I do 4x4 I am thinking of starting for myself and see how it grows and if enough would consider full time but I understand it is very hard to start.

Make sure you price up starting out properly I did and you need a good few jobs just to break even on what you will pay out for insurances etc etc.
If not careful might cost u more than you make
