Beware - Shuko Adaptors

Beware when appliances are fitted with adaptors to convert earthed Shuko plugs to 13A BS1363 plug type.

Today I had occasion to test a Class I appliance with moulded Shuko plug fitted in to such an adaptor.

Earth bond test – “fail”. No connection.

Pictures below show fitment method of Shuko. Picture 3 shows “earth tang” which had weakened to the extent that it had lost contact to Shuko earth.



I think this demonstrates unreliability of these adaptors.
Effective solution……….. cut off Shuko and replace with BS1363 plug.

I work with shuko plugs day in day out have done for years its not just the adaptors the plugs are a piece a crap even the expensive one's wish we could have good old three pin uk plugs here in Spain
