Looking at the 2 links above I would say diditrain is right, certainly looks like drayton.

Could well be but the "brains" of the system i.e. the web parts are "engineered" by Alertme.

I've been talking to British Gas today and they have NO plans to sell kits so the only way to get the package is to pay BG to come and install "their" wireless room stat, receiver and hub.

No doubt trying to corner the market, I suppose anyone who invented/produced an item or tool that's likely to make them lots of money would do the same, It business after all.
Where you looking to start installing them on mass to increase business or just interested in the product?

We are currently working on our own home refurbishment so I wanted to install such a system. As I've now found out its not just about a Wifi controller!

Ah I see, well good luck with the project but looks like you may have to get BG to install the system if you still decide to go with it.

Well, money is tight so I'll get my Gas Safe mate to install a basic one and wait until money is a be easier to come by. I would prefer not to go with a proprietory one, especially with a beast like BG!!

There will be more than one company involved in that project. BG, Drayton perhaps for the enclosure etc... but there will be a developer who knows nothing about making gas bits.

You know it's not just British Gas who has these. I designed a GSM heating timer for my company and there are several other people doing this. I know ours is solid Advent Controls GSM Central Heating Controls but I don't know the quality of anyone else's.

To avoid being accused of being a spammer hawking my own gear just try Googling 'GSM heating timer'. You find loads of small companies making them. You can also buy WiFi ones but my experience of WiFi gear is that every now and then you're going to come home to a cold house because it's lost your router. I know that's what stopping Advent making one.
