Hi guys
im normally ok with testing but not too sure when it comes to central heating systems.
When testing water heater do i disconnect heater element first before doing i-r test ?
And when testing r1=r2 do i have to test all valves and pump ?
Also as there is electronic control on oil boiler do i test at 500v l/ to earth only ?
Would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks

for your IR testing, i would short out L and N and test at 500v from there to E.

And when testing r1=r2 do i have to test all valves and pump ?......I dont know anyone that does,I normally R1+R2 test to the isolator(earth disconnected to avoid parallel paths) only and record that, and R2 associated connected equipment to ensure continuity..parallel paths through pipes will give a false reading anyway but at least you confirm earthing to pump/valves etc
Also as there is electronic control on oil boiler do i test at 500v l/ to earth only ?....I wouldnt IR test a boiler...to risky as they are very complex and tempermental now.
Would be very grateful for any advice.

Thanks
.........
