Hello all,
This is my first post although I've been reading this forum for the last 3 months. I am currently a miantenance electrician working at the airport but by the looks of things my company is going to be taken over, so when this happens I am looking as setting up as a one man band. In order to do this I need to do an assessed job to be verified by a part p scheme (undecided as which one to join yet).
My uncle who is a builder has asked me to wire up a customers garage (the gargae is going to be converted into an office). It is currently fed from 4mm singles (in old colours) from a conduit that runs underground to a fuse board used to provide power to the customers back extension. The fuse board is an old rewireable fuse board which is fed from the mainswith a 10mm armoured from an isolated fuse switch where the tails split and feed another fuse board which powers the rest of the house. The supply looks to be tncs and all the services an main earth are wired in 10mm and 16mm respectively
The garage has no other services so i was looking to use the existing earthing arrangements and split the 10mm armoured and feed a 63amp 30 ma rcbo and from there into a 5 way consumer unit. Guy originaly wanted more than 1 light circuit and 1 power circuit so i said i would leave some spare ways in case he wanted to upgrade the 4mm cable in the future).
My questions are would spliting the armoured be ok, and what to split in in e.g an adapatble box with henley blocks inside e.t.c. (I can't supply it from the other fuse board as the guy is insistent he does not want to pay or have a new armoured running round the outside of the house)
Also I had informed the LABC of work commencing because they had to come round anyway because of whats happening to the garage and he said that they do not sign work of at all and that if i did want it signed off by them it would be in the region of 500 quid which seems very steep. (this is spelthorne council)
Any response will be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Tom
