Blown low energy bulbs

Hi A friend (plummer) as done some work on a newly completed block of flats (I think about 10 flats) he said that all the low energy bulbs keep blowing, he said that he thinks they all need new transformers. I have not been round yet to look, but I thought you guys may have some ideas to get me going. Ta.

My advice is to never listen to a plumber... They only connect pipes for a good reason...

I've always been suspicious of people who stick their arm round other peoples s bends for fun.

First thing I would check is that dimmer switches have not been fitted. Most energy saving bulbs do not work with them unless they are so designed.
Secondly, loose connections will cause arcs which will decrease the lamp life.
Finally, as you state it is all houses on a new build, I have worked on similar where the client supplied inferior products...

are you sure he didn't mean low voltage. As he talked about transformers.

Hi I think the lights must be low voltage. I read somewhere about lights blowing because the voltage was to high, is this possible?

you mean ELV

i would think the electronic trafos anyway should regulate the output fairly well

heat build up ,cheap bulbs, vibration maybe

So hard to make people understand this, you buy bulbs from Asda, then you may as well add them to your weekly shopping cart.
