Hey,
I just want to double check on a few things as I cannot remember / find them anywhere...

We have an old boiler at work (circa 1989), it is wired via three-phase cables from the wall across a floor mounted cable tray (circa 1" offset) which has no cover.

The older cables within the tray are all SWA, but one or two of the newer ones (single phase) are not. Some are sheilded and one has a thin metal wrap around it within (I forget the name of the cable type - it's not MICC or anything similar).

As the tray is on the floor in a Boiler Room (risk of mechanical damage), is anything other than SWA appropriate for the tray?

Thanks

James

You could put a metal capping over the tray for mechanical protection. It will save disturbing the cables that are in place and the boiler can continue working.

The tray looks overloaded THB - doing the calcs soon. One of the other problems is that the cable is clipped direct to the wall after the tray and then runs loose to an electrically actuated valve - difficult to add mechanical protection to it.
So, it would be an option for part of the room, but not all.

The room's an electrical mess lol (although not the worst on site... I may take some pictures and then post a competition thread -> spot something safe) half joke, half serious.
