Yes, as long as you fuse it down correctly

I'd use 2.5mm to feed the spur.

You should use 2.5 from the socket to the fused spur and then what ever size cable is required for the load after that and fused accordingly in the spur.
I wouldn't use 1.5 from the socket to the fused spur which I think is what you are asking.

Assuming its oil or gas heating fused down to 3A, why? I'd use 1.5mm FWIW.

Because the supply to the heating fcu spurred from the ring will most likely be on a 32a OCPD and I just feel it's the right way to do it.

I guess the issues with taking 1.5mm from the RFC are:

• Will it safely clear a fault on the 32A MCB? Would need to check if the 1mm CPC meets adiabatic limit.
• If some muppet decided to re-use it for a double socket later.

Of course you are not responsible for future actions, but I guess the cost difference in wire compared to 2.5mm is probably not worth the time & effort to check all aspects!
