Afternoon all.

Having to bond the water and gas supply on the CU change I am doing. No pipework has ever been bonded and I cant seem to find any way to the water inlet (at the kitchen at the back of the house) from the CU which is in the middle of the house, backing on to the outside wall. The kitchen floor is tiled and there's units over every inch of the place.
On the plus side the gas metre is in a cupboard about 2 meters away from the MET! Yay!! :D

The only solution I can think of is to take the cable outside the house and to run it along the outer wall round to the kitchen and into the back of the kitchen cupboards and onto the inlet pipe. The customer is happy with this set up, but is there any requirement for the cable to be run in conduit or trunking or can it be clipped to the wall directly?
Obviously conduit is a bit bulkier than a 10mm cable which after a coat of sandtex will melt into the side of the house, pretty much unnoticed.

Has anyone come across a similar problem? Any ideas / suggestions would be much appreciated as always.

Thanks again in advance.

Matt

I have had a simular situation which I resolved as you suggest by going on the outside , I did however run the cable in PVC conduit.

have they tiled under the units ?take plinth cover off and have a look you may find a loose board near water main then its just fishing

yours benji

I have had this as well, I put it in black PVC conduit, made it easier and looked better but if you can put it where it will get covered in sandtex.....no problem

Cheers everyone.
I'll have a little look to see if I can get under the boards but I dont hold out much hope! Looks like the conduit will win the day!!

Cheers again!

My parents house is a 40yr old council house.
They had gas put in about 15yrs ago and British Gas did the same. Ran bonding cable outside the house from the box to the CU. However they just clipped direct onto the outside wall and it looks crap..!!
Its on my list of things to do, to swop it out and out into black conduit...

Hi All,

I have had to go outside with the cable as the underfloor option was a no go. I used 16mm x 16mm mini trunking as the house is whitewashed. Its pretty much unnoticeable apart from the fact that it's glaringly brand new!! :D

I cant see a problem. Its made of PVC, same as conduit, and the cover forms a seal against water.
This stretch is about to be 'fillered in' and painted in Sandtex which is better than factor 50!! :D

I used it as it is so much more subtle than the conduit in this particular situation.

Sounds good mate,if its getting buried in wall all, good,Although in years to come will you be able to re-use it;)
