Hi all,

I have an interest in hobby electronics but would like to learn more about household electrics. Can anyone recommend any books, i'd consider a course but think they're not really for people not looking to become an electrician, at least not unless I get really into it.

I've considered buying the city and guilds electrical installation text books, are they good as a general resource on the subject?

Thanks for the advice.

You could always buy yourself a On-site Guide....

Thanks guys the wiki and on site guides look useful. Are the on site guides a better general referece than the city and guilds texts then?
The OSG is a reference for practicing Electricians and Domestic Installers, with a working knowledge of their trade, whilst it is a very useful document, for someone who doesn't plan to take up the trade, and only wants to improve his general knowledge of domestic electrics, this book may be a bit of a struggle.
There are videos on you tube which may be of interest, but in my opinion the OSG and BS7671 would be a struggle for a novice non electrician to understand.
If you only intend to improve your overall electrical knowledge, then it would better if you googled the info you require, or if its books you are after, some of the larger book shops have a plethora of DIY, how to books which I feel would suit your needs admirably. Something to be going on with
