Hi

I went to a clients property to look at why two of several storage heaters were not working. To establish if the power is getting to the heater I poked the boost button to power up the heaters and nothing happened. Am I daft or what?? This is what the boost button does ?? I'm not waiting around till midnight to see if they power up!!!

All help appreciated.

The boost on a storage heater usually just provides a heat boost by opening the vent or starting a fan and using the stored heat more quickly not supplying power to the heater. The time clock on the meter will always hold off the power until the low tariff time (i think some have a test button that switches it on in the day)
To test the heater you would need to temporarily wire it in to a daytime supply, easiest by wiring in to a plug.

Thank you Richard - I was considering doing just that. The boost button is on the dual tariff meter and I have wrongly assumed it gave the heaters a "boost" by supplying a time limited electrical power supply at the standard tariff rate.
Kind regards.

the boost button on the meter is for the meter fitter, it makes the off peak live live for about 30 seconds for testing purposes but only works after the mains fuse has been pulled and reinserted
