Borrowed neutral

I'm trying to install a spur off an existing lighting circuit.
I thought I would be able to replace a single switch with a double and use the new switch for the spur.
However the builder hasn't brought the Neutral down to the switch, it's up in the ceiling and I can't access it, the floor above is tiled.
I've seen references to "borrowed neutral" and I can probably pick up a neutral from a ring circuit used for tumble drier/washing machine
Is this allowed and will there be any problems back at the fuse box??
Alternatively are there any "trick of the trade" that will sort out this problem??

The fact that you're talking about borrowing a neutral shows a lack of knowledge mate, the "trick of the trade" would therefore be to consult an electrician locally who can come and give you an idea of how little this would cost you.

Hmm, second thoughts maybe i should delete my prior comment.

I'll replace it with this....OP, if you have access to the ring, then the solution is very obvious. Borrowing a neutral is a non-starter, terrible practice and against regs. If you have any knowledge of the regs, then look at 314.1 and you'll see it doesn't comply - borrowing a neutral can be lethal.

But because you gave it back you can always borrow it again if the need arises

Depends how long you borrow it for. Regs allow for borrowed neutrals up to 14 days extended to 28 if you have a permit

Wow..now I've read it all....a thread asking whether the OP should borrow a neutral as opposed to "why does this RCD keep tripping when I turn this light on"
