would a cable run through a wooden pipe box be classed as concealed in a wall and require rcd protection

Should'nt run cables with pipework , especially hot water pipes, can you give more details on the install
Your cable may or may not need RCD protection. Depends what it is for and how the rest of it is installed etc. You will need to consult the good books.
When i come across cables too close to pipes for comfort i put some of that round insulation on the pipes, the stuff that has a slit in it so it just pushes onto the pipes. Plumbers etc just dont give a ----.
