would a cable run through a wooden pipe box be classed as concealed in a wall and require rcd protection

Should'nt run cables with pipework , especially hot water pipes, can you give more details on the install

Was working with the alarm boys last week they had a job they'd installed about 5 years ago, kept false alarming. Central heating had been installed about 18 months ago. The pipes were touching the alarm cables and had basically melted them. The trouble we had convincing the owner it the boiler fitters fault not ours. The mains cables were also touching all the pipework, we did tell the owner but I doubt they'll do anything about it

Your cable may or may not need RCD protection. Depends what it is for and how the rest of it is installed etc. You will need to consult the good books.;)

When i come across cables too close to pipes for comfort i put some of that round insulation on the pipes, the stuff that has a slit in it so it just pushes onto the pipes. Plumbers etc just dont give a ----.

I also put this insulation between my cable and the pipe, regardless of if it is a hot, cold or gas pipe. I guess an additional benefit is it creats an (insulated?) gap as well which further improves safety as well.
